About the Course

 

This two-hour introductory level course provides the basic knowledge and skills necessary to safely handle, load, fire and unload a semi-auto pistol or revolver. BASIC HANDGUN is ideal for new gun owners or those seeking to refresh their safety knowledge. You'll gain the essential knowledge and skills needed to safely handle your firearm.

 

TOPICS COVERED

  • Basic Firearm Safety Rules: Master the fundamental principles of firearm safety

  • Firearm anatomy and operation: Understand the different parts of a handgun, how they function, and how to safely load, unload, and clear the firearm.

  • Safe handling techniques: Develop proper grip, stance, and trigger control for accurate and safe shooting.

  • Misfires and malfunctions: Gain knowledge on how to identify and safely handle handgun malfunctions.

  • Range safety and etiquette: Learn the rules and procedures for safe conduct at a shooting range.

  • Building confidence and proficiency: Through live-fire exercises you'll gain confidence and develop responsible shooting habits.


REQUIRED EQUIPMENT

  • Eye & Hearing Protection (Clear lenses & Electronic Hearing Preferred)

  • Quality Semi-Auto pistol or revolver with minimum of two magazine or speed loaders

  • Baseball Cap (not required, but recommended)

  • Minimum of 100 rounds of ammunition

  • Factory loaded ammunition ONLY.  No Reloads.

  • ·Appropriate attire – No open toed shoes or flip flops, no tank tops or low-cut tops, no shorts or skirts

Lyndon Yates


Lyndon is the owner of Kiwi’s Custom Guns (KCG). He has over 25 years of experience in gunsmithing and repair and has extensive background training with firearms. Before starting KCG, Lyndon enjoyed a 15 year career in law enforcement, and spent 8 years in the U.S. Army as an infantryman, serving in both Bosnia and Macedonia. He had collateral assignments in the military as an armorer and firearms instructor. He has also served as an RTO and firearms instructor at the Ray Simon Police Academy as well as a range master and armorer for the Modesto Police Department.

Lyndon holds instructor certifications in both private sector and CA POST courses in handgun, urban rifle operator, and low light employment. He has also certified in many other operator level firearm and tactical courses presented by private sector companies as well as law enforcement presenters including but not limited to: Tactical Carbine, Tactical Handgun, Tactical Shotgun, and Precision Rifle.
